We're back for the 62nd pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. You can see previous picks below in the draft table. You can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the 62nd pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, 49ersCusefan and the New England Patriots select Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington. He also considered Notre Dame tight end Troy Niklas, Louisville defensive end Marcus Smith, Florida State safety Lamarcus Joyner, and USC center Marcus Martin. Here are his thoughts on the pick:

After filling a need and providing depth in the middle of the defensive line to stop the run and get after the QB with Jernigan, the Patriots find themselves in an ideal situation with several great options available at the end of round 2. Marcus Smith would provide help at DE immediately entering the rotation with Rob Ninkovich and Chandler Jones. Lamarcus Joyner would compete for a starting spot at safety, and might be very enticing here with a thin group of safeties available in the draft and currently on the team. Marcus Martin would step in and compete for a position on the struggling interior of the offensive line with 11 year vet G Dan Connelly and C Ryan Wendell.

However, this pick is a no-brainer. New England must address the TE position, especially given the latest news that Gronk may not be available to start the season. Belichick, who greatly appreciates the history of the game and old-school players might be enticed to pick Niklas with his strong NFL bloodline (nephew of Bruce Mathews and cousin to the several Mathews playing in the NFL now), but in the end, the talent Seferian-Jenkins will bring makes this the obvious pick. Niklas is still a bit raw at TE after starting his college career at LB, whereas AS-J was the real deal at TE from day 1 in Washington.

Many "experts" graded AS-J as a low 1st, early 2nd round pick, so getting him at the end of round two almost feels like stealing (typical Pats, everything turns up roses for them).  He will provide the length, strength and athleticism at the TE position that the Patriots were missing much of 2013 when Gronk was out.  He can get open, make the tough catches, and provides an imposing red zone target - and when Brady has two healthy and athletic TE options, watch out, they can put points up quickly and against anyone.  With the Patriots Super Bowl window closing and average weapons at WR, having AS-J fill the TE2 position for the next several years will make Brady very happy.

Nick Chiamardas: After trying to replace Aaron Hernandez with an undrafted tight end last season, I bet the Patriots go a different route this year. ASJ would give them another big, strong tight end capable of dominating the middle of the field. He doesn't possess the speed the Pats would probably like in a complimenting Gronk but he's a beast to handle int he red zone.
