What position will replace Eric Wright on the 49ers 90-man roster?

The San Francisco 49ers currently have 89 players on their roster after the unexpected retirement of cornerback Eric Wright. Jim Harbaugh said they will fill the spot in a timely fashion. What position will it be?

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

This past week, cornerback Eric Wright surprised most of us when he announced his decision to retire from the NFL. The 49ers re-signed Wright to a 1-year contract earlier this year, but he recently decided he no longer had the passion for the game. According to reports, he mentioned this to Trent Baalke recently, and Baalke asked him to think on it. They eventually had a subsequent discussion and Wright filed his retirement paperwork on Tuesday.

His departure means the 49ers now have 89 players on their roster. They are allowed a maximum of 90 heading into training camp, and generally teams will carry the maximum 90. On Wednesday, Jim Harbaugh said the team would fill the roster spot in a timely fashion, but it would happen after minicamp ended.

Minicamp is now closed, and the team is likely considering a variety of options. When Coach Harbaugh first mentioned that Wright was considering retirement, the first question from a lot of people was whether or not the 49ers would try and sign Brandon Flowers. Thus far, there has not been a single word connecting Flowers and the 49ers. Although he was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs, he could still command a decent amount of money on the open market. Thus far, Flowers has been connected to the Steelers, Chargers, Patriots, and Lions.

It's hard to guess what specific player the 49ers might sign, so as someone suggested in a previous thread, we'll open up a poll asking what position the 49ers will fill with the 90th roster spot. This is more than likely going to be someone who will not survive final roster cuts, and very well might not survive the first round of roster cuts. Most of the competition at the top of each positional depth chart is locked in. This 90th person might be able to slip in there, but really this is likely a simple camp body.

I've included the current roster, split up by position. Where do you see another addition?
