The 6 million dollars off the books from the Carlos Rogers release has finally happened. With the available money, the Niners are expected to use it on a new contract for Colin Kaepernick. Now, the talks for this new contract are not expected to happen until the Miami investigation is completed. It seems that it will be resolved fairly soon, but there was news that the investigators are waiting for some "scientific" evidence. Unless this evidence is a bombshell, Kap should be free of this mess soon.
If the issue is resolved in Kap's favor, the Niners should work on a contract extension as soon as the investigation ends. If they try to wait it out, they could end up paying a higher price at the end of the year. Kap has the best assembly of wide receivers he has enjoyed in his time at San Francisco and could be looking at a very good year statistically. It could be better business to just pay now rather than later. Unless the team thinks he will not improve, the longer they wait the higher the price Colin could command.
