Good morning everyone. Training camp opened for the whole roster yesterday and we finally have a good amount of links to go over. The biggest news of the day was Vernon Davis ending his holdout and reporting for camp. I was glad to see it, and I definitely do not disagree with the idea that he simply pulled a veteran move and skipped minicamp. The way the NFL negotiates its contracts is the least fair to the players of the big three American sports leagues, so I definitely understand when players hold out. I am just glad that a player I like did not receive a front loaded contract only to hold out at the end when the money gets smaller.
If Vernon Davis reported then it is only natural to switch over to his offseason holdout buddy Alex Boone. Alex did not report, and will start getting fined $30,000 for every day of camp he misses. If his holdout actually extends into the real games, he will start losing game checks. So uh, lets hope the situation is resolved before then.
Before Joe Staley was extended, I was positive that Boone would get his contract because he was the heir apparent to Staley at LT. Now I'm not so sure. They have been drafting in the interior of the offensive line like madmen the last few years. Add on signings like Jonathan Martin, who could play guard, and it is hard to see the leverage Boone has in this scenario. He still has two years left on his current deal and I just have a hard time imagining a two year holdout. But enough about that. We have a lot of links today so lets get to them.
