The San Francisco 49ers were back at practice Friday evening, running a session that started at 5 p.m. PT. The reports are slow coming in, but given that it's kind of late on the east coast, I wanted to get something together.
Michael Crabtree is back
It was a big day for Crabtree, as he was reportedly a full participant in practice. This marked his first full session since straining his hamstring on July 30. We'll have more on him, but he said he was up to 230 pounds last season when he returned due to the limited workout opportunities. He says he is now down to 215 pounds, which should help with his explosiveness. I'm just a little bit excited!
It was not a good for the backup quarterbacks. Blaine Gabbert and Josh Johnson struggled during the session. Grant Cohn had Gabbert at 5 of 13, and Johnson at 5 of 11 on the day. It's only practice passes, but after last Thursday's less than stellar work from Gabbert, it is not inspiring. I still would not be surprised to see him remain the No. 2 quarterback into the season, but the confidence is not exactly awe-inspiring.
End of training camp
Friday marked the final day of training camp. According to Matt Maiocco, Friday's practice involved a good deal of scout team work. This was how the last public practice at Levi's Stadium went. The 49ers will be looking to figure some of their own things out, but they also need to be prepared for what the Broncos will bring to the table.
Adam Snyder was back at practice, getting some left guard work. Mike Iupati was at practice, but it sounds like he split time with Snyder. It sounds like Patrick Willis is dealing with some kind of stinger. I would be surprised if he played on Sunday. LaMichael James and Vance McDonald were both in blue non-contact jerseys once again.
