NFL roster cuts: 49ers must cut down to 75 players by August 26

The San Francisco 49ers are officially one week away from their first roster cutdown deadline. On Tuesday, August 26, the 49ers have to cut down to 75 players by 1 p.m. PT. That is followed by the 53-man cut down on Saturday, August 30.

The cut down to 75 players is likely to include both complete roster cuts, and players moved to different injury lists. Last year, the 49ers cut five players, and placed another 10 on various injury lists. This year, their injury lists include the following:

Active/NFI

RB Marcus Lattimore
FB Trey Millard
CB Keith Reaser
OG Brandon Thomas

Active/PUP

LB NaVorro Bowman
TE Garrett Celek
DT Kaleb Ramsey

The 49ers already have Blake Costanzo, Kendall Hunter and Chuck Jacobs on injured reserve, so they do not count against the roster limit. Glenn Dorsey is not on an injury list yet, but the team has to wait until September 2 to their short term injured reserve spot on him. If they choose not to do that, then they could move him straight to regular IR, ending his season.

From the group above, Bowman, Millard, Reaser, and Thomas are all likely to be transferred to the Reserve/PUP and Reserve/NFI lists. That leaves them with decisions on 11 other players. Down below, I've posted the full roster. We will begin crossing names off as the cuts roll in.

Marcus Lattimore, Kaleb Ramsey and Garrett Celek all could be transferred as well, but for now we'll pretend they will not be moved.  If I had to make some early picks, I could see something like: Glenn Winston, David Reed, Lance Lewis, L'Damian Washington, Kevin Greene, Michael Philipp, Al Netter, Kion Wilson, D.J. Campbell, Colton Schmidt, and Kyle Nelson. I just went in order of offense to defense to special teams for these projections, so this not in order of who I think is most likely.
