49ers, Aldon Smith continue to wait for word on his potential suspension

We still have not heard what the status is of a potential suspension for Aldon Smith.

Another week has passed and we still have no word on Aldon Smith's potential suspension status. Smith met with Roger Goodell the day of the 49ers-Ravens game, which was 15 days ago. There was some buzz we were going to hear back either Thursday or Friday, but nothing ever came of it.

Normally the league likes to drop suspension news late in the day on a Thursday or Friday. Matt Barrows tweeted that the thinking was the suspension would need to be announced before the end of this coming Monday to allow for enough time to hear the appeal before Week 1.

That makes sense given the NFL's process, but who really knows what the NFL is thinking with this situation. It has taken them quite some time to figure the whole thing out, and the 49ers are left waiting for how they will adjust their roster accordingly. Corey Lemonier and Dan Skuta would be the prime contributors, and Aaron Lynch likely would get some opportunities as well. However, somebody else would earn a spot on the 53-man roster while Smith is on the Reserve/Suspended list.

And so, much like Cookie Monster, we wait.
