High school football games moved from Levi's Stadium to Cal's Memorial Stadium

The 49ers will not be able to host a pair of high school games this Friday. The turf issues will result in those games moving to Cal's Memorial Stadium. It provides the 49ers with an opportunity to get new sod in and ready for the home opener against the Bears.

The Levi's Stadium field surface issues have resulted in a change of plans for this Friday's high school football games. The San Francisco 49ers were going to play host to a pair of local high school games, including Jesuit vs. De La Salle, and Manteca vs. Wilcox. The 49ers announced on Friday that the games have been moved, and Cal announced on Saturday that the games will now take place at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.

The 49ers are still planning on hosting high school games at Levi's Stadium, but they are pushing the first ones back to October. The "Levi's Stadium Friday Night Lights" games will now take place on October 10 and 11, and feature a pair of double-headers. Kick off times are still to be determined, but here are the games:

Friday, October 10th

Game 1: Santa Clara vs. Wilcox
Game 2: Elk Grove vs. Jesuit

Saturday, October 11th

Game 1: Oakdale vs. Manteca
Game 2: James Logan vs. De La Salle

The 49ers remain on schedule to play the San Diego Chargers at Levi's Stadium on Sunday. The situation has been embarrassing, but it is one that is correctable. The team is using a temporary thick turf solution for Sunday. The decision to move the high school games likely means the team will then re-sod soon after the Chargers game. That will give the grass time to root itself before the September 6 Mexico-Chile soccer match. There will probably need to be some clean-up after that before the 49ers September 14 home opener, but all should be well at that point.
