College Football: Week 1 NFL Draft watch

We take a look at the notable headlines of Week 1 as we begin the slow march to the college football national championship game, and the 2015 NFL Draft.

Scott Halleran

College football is back! The 2014 season brings new faces to big programs, and new changes to the bowl format as well. Today we have a full schedule of games, which bring a lot of storylines to follow.

Interesting Tid-Bits
  • College football playoffs are finally happening this season. The top four teams will have a chance to become National Champion.

  • LSU freshman running back Leonard Fournette is drawing comparisons to Adrian Peterson, and his coach Les Miles compared Fournette to Michael Jordan.

  • USC begins the year with a new head coach, Steve Sarkisian.

  • Alabama has a new offensive coordinator, former Raiders, University of Tennessee, and USC head coach Lane Kiffin. I wonder how this turns out.

  • Vegas has Florida State as the favorite to win the National Championship, and Jameis Winston winning the Heisman. Deja Vu? Alabama and Marcus Mariota are No. 2 on the lists.

•'s Bucky Brooks put together a list of players to watch for this season, he listed these players number one respectively: QB Jameis Winston, FSU; RB Todd Gurley, Georgia; WR Amari Cooper, Alabama; DB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Oregon

  • Today's schedule has two games where both teams are ranked (No. 16 Clemson at No. 12 Georgia, No. 14 Wisconsin at No. 13 LSU)

  • Alabama will play two quarterbacks today, with redshirt Senior Blake Sims starting and FSU transfer Jacob Coker coming off the bench. A quarterback competition is in progress.

  • My player to watch is Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon. A runner that is hard to take down and explosive in the open field, Gordon will be a hard man to stop for LSU. Last season while splitting carries with current Patriots running back James White, Gordon rushed for 1,609 yards and 12 touchdowns.
