San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh met with the media Monday following practice, and he had a chance to provide some details on Colin Kaepernick's planned usage on Thursday. The 49ers travel to face the Baltimore Ravens, and Harbaugh said Kap was likely to play a series or two in the game.
It is entirely possible he ends up playing more than that, but that would depend on how extensive his first and/or second series ended up lasting. If he has a pair of three and outs, maybe we see him for a third series. But if he gets one really long series, or two fairly solid series in, it makes sense to call it a night at that point.
My guess is he ends up playing most of the first quarter, leaving three quarters to split between Blaine Gabbert, McLeod Bethel-Thompson, and Josh Johnson. I would hope that Gabbert gets the bulk of those snaps, maybe playing the second quarter and maybe half or more of the third. The only thing we can really learn about the QB depth chart would be If either McBLT or Johnson did not see any snaps. Other than that, it's just about getting the feet wet in some game action.
