Golden Nuggets: Finally Gameday

Thursday, August 7, 2014 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Good Morning everyone. After quite possibly the longest off season in my memory, the 49ers will be playing actual football this afternoon! I know its only preseason, and I'm sure I will hate the next four weeks leading up to the regular season. But the first preseason game is always a fun one. I don't really need or want to see the starters perform well, aside from a few injury replacements. Really, I'm just excited to see the rookies and other young players perform.

For me, there are few things more exciting than seeing undervalued and under-appreciated players blossom into contributors, starters, and even standouts. As an NFL fan in general, those are the stories that really stick with me for life. Kurt Warner going from grocery store clerk to super bowl winning quarterback might be the most made for Hollywood script in NFL history. In the preseason, everyone gets an opportunity, thus there is always the chance to see something completely unexpected. Could we see another Victor Cruz absolutely explode onto the scene this year? I guess we'll just have to watch, now lets get to those links.
