One in, one out. That's the situation the 49ers are facing as they expect to welcome Alex Boone back to the offensive line. It was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that Trent Baalke was able to rework Boone's existing 2 year contract to give him a bump up in pay. We don't really have much reports on what Alex's work out regimen has been during the hold-out so we don't know what his physical status is. Hopefully it will not take long to get him back in game shape.
The flip side is that the 49ers defensive line suffered a blow with Ray McDonald's arrest for alleged felony domestic violence. Of course, we always assume innocence rather than guilt, but if Ray is found to have done it, then we expect him to be the first recipient of the NFL's newly minted tougher stance on domestic violence. That means if Commissioner Roger Goodell puts the hammer down on Ray, the team would lose him for a six-game duration.
