The San Francisco 49ers cut down to their 53-man roster on Saturday, and while they still have roster moves to make concerning Alex Boone and possibly Glenn Dorsey, we have a pretty clear idea of the roster. After opening training camp with five quarterbacks, the 49ers head into the regular season with three: Colin Kaepernick, Blaine Gabbert, and Josh Johnson.
I would not put it past the 49ers to make quarterback roster moves over the course of the 2014 season, but for now, Gabbert and Johnson are the backups. The question now is who is the No. 2 quarterback, and who is the No. 3 quarterback? I would be surprised if both are active this Sunday against the Cowboys, but who will it actually be?
My guess would be Gabbert, although I was convinced they would cut Johnson. So feel free to ignore my prediction. It will probably serve you better! It has seemed like Harbaugh has backed Gabbert through this whole thing, even when he has struggled. Johnson has been better in preseason games, but we don't know what the two quarterbacks showed consistently in practice. The coaches had plenty of practice tape to consider before making this decision.
How do you see the quarterback depth chart shaking out behind Kap, now that we know the 49ers are carrying three quarterbacks?
