Although the schedule of games today features just one between two ranked teams, there are plenty of intriguing matchups and storylines to follow.
Interesting Notes-
- After being off the field for a year due to a suspension, Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has looked even better than he did during Notre Dames National Championship run in 2012. Last week he sliced and diced Michigan up for 226 yards and three touchdowns, while completing 23 of 34 throws. NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks believes Golson should be in the Heisman conversation now. Notre Dame plays a mediocre at best Purdue team. Golson could put up some big numbers today.
- The ranked game this week is No. 6 Georgia at No. 24 South Carolina. Two juggernaut running backs will be squaring off in this one, which could turn out to be an old school game of smashmouth football. Georgia back Todd Gurley could be a Heisman finalist at seasons end and has a good chance of being drafted in the first round in the 2015 draft. The 6'1" 226 lb back rushed for 198 yards and three scores versus Clemson, while also returning a kick for a touchdown. South Carolina also has a solid running back in Mike Davis. Davis is only 5'9", but his 223 lb frame makes him a force to be reckoned with, Davis isn't a finesse back by any means. Last year Davis averaged 5.83 yards per carry and ran for 1,183 yards with 11 scores. If you like running backs, tune into this one.
- Texas is trying to get back to the days of BCS bowl games and national prominence, and an upset over No. 12 UCLA today would put them on the right track. They'll have their work cut out for them with UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley at the helm for the Bruins. Hundley is a Heisman candidate if the Bruins can keep on winning. Texas Defensive Coordinator Vance Bedford said that Hundley reminds him of Cam Newton.
- Both Rob Rang and Mel Kiper have Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota number one on their big board for the 2015 draft. Today No. 2 Oregon plays Wyoming.
- Alabama receiver Amari Cooper leads the FBS in receiving with 319 yards. He will look to add to that total against Southern Miss.
