The Chicago Bears beat the San Francisco 49ers 28-20 decision on Sunday Night Football, as the 49ers blew what seemed like a sure win in fairly impressive fashion. There was an interesting discussion after the game about the fact that this marked the third time in Jim Harbaugh's four seasons that the 49ers have lost in Week 2. Harbaugh is 4-0 in Week 1 games, but he is 1-3 in Week 2. The one Week 2 was a 27-19 win over the Detroit Lions in 2012, and that was followed by a 24-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3.
I think this is primarily a coincidence, but it is still an odd one given how Jim Harbaugh has talked about the importance of Week 1 to Week 2. Harbaugh mentioned last week that the biggest chance for improvement in a given season is between Week 1 and Week 2 because you finally have regular season game film to build on. It is possible Coach Harbaugh was saying that because it just so happened the 49ers were in between Week 1 and 2, but it makes some measure of sense.
Whatever the case, I don't know if there is anything to make of this, other than it just being a random quirk of the Jim Harbaugh 49ers. Anybody think there is a reason for why this might be the case, or is it just a random occurrence?
