The Niners opened their 3rd home in their storied history and like the 2 home openers before, the Niners lost. In a trend of Jim Harbaugh's time with the team, they lost a Week 2 game after winning Week 1. In Jim's time as coach, the 49ers are 4-0 in Week 1 and 1-3 in Week 2. This game was odd in the fact that the Niners looked to be relative control of the game. They were up 17-0 in the 1st half until they gave up a touchdown with 13 seconds in the half. After the half, the team imploded and were outscored 21-3 in what has been a disturbing trend this year. In the 2 games this year, the 49ers have outscored their opponents 45-10 in the 1st half and been outscored 35-3 after halftime.

The team killed themselves with mistakes. They were called for 16 penalties and it seemed like more than that. The "inappropriate language" penalty was an odd one since I've never heard it before. The mistakes don't help when you play a team with a potent offense as Chicago. They seemed to have drives that were moving just because of penalties and once they were in the red zone, Brandon Marshall took over. Jimmie Ward will have a lot of film study this week. He received a lesson by one of the best receivers in the game.

As Kap and the offense is concerned, he had a game to forget. Throwing 3 INTs will never allow you to win a game in the NFL. He had ill advised throws, but the receivers had some drops that should have been caught. The Niners offensive line had a rough night. Jonathan Martin allowed 2 sacks, Iupati allowed 1 sack, and Staley had 2 penalties. The defense had a good game until the 4th quarter. The turnovers left them exposed, but giving up 21 points in a quarter is bad. A couple penalties came at terrible times and Aaron Lynch missed the opportunity to give the offense great field position when he elected to try a grab the ball and run rather than fall on the botched snap.

They will have to play a much cleaner game against 2-0 Arizona next week. On to the links!
