Vernon Davis injury leaves him doubtful for Sunday, according to Ian Rapoport

The 49ers tight end position remains a question mark on Sunday. Ian Rapoport is reporting Vernon Davis is doubtful for Sunday.

The San Francisco 49ers head into Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals with a big question mark at the tight end position. Vernon Davis and Vance McDonald are both listed as questionable on the injury report. Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport reported that it is doubtful Davis will be able to play on Sunday. He mentioned Davis being on crutches until Thursday, but he did not mention the fact that Davis apparently looked to be moving around better on Friday.

The 49ers added some intrigue to the situation on Saturday when they promoted tight end Asante Cleveland from the practice squad. If the 49ers had any questions about Davis and/or McDonald heading into Sunday, they had to promote or sign a tight end by Saturday. A player must be on the 53-man roster on Saturday if they are going to play on Sunday. This does not guarantee the 49ers will need to activate Cleveland, but it provides them the option just in case.

The 49ers inactives are not due until 11:25 a.m. PT, and we probably will not know for certain until then. I still think Davis has been playing possum a little bit, but I guess it depends on whether or not he's a good actor!
