The San Francisco 49ers welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to town in Week 5, and the odds are already a little bit funky. The 49ers opened as 5-point favorites, but the line has moved around. It dropped down to 49ers -4.5, but has now climbed up to -6. For those wondering, the minus sign is indicative of the favorite, so the 49ers are currently sitting as 6-point favorites at some sportsbooks.
The Chiefs are coming off a dominant win over the New England Patriots, but I am wondering just what to make of the Patriots. The Patriots struggled to put away the Oakland Raiders, and looked abysmal on Monday. That being said, the Chiefs did some great things. Travis Kelce is a force, and Jamaal Charles look solid in his return. He left briefly with a leg injury after a touchdown, but it ended up just being a cramp, and he was back in the game a little later.
These Chiefs can put together a dynamic offense when Alex Smith gets time in the pocket. The 49ers have slowly increased their pressure on the quarterback, and will need to add to it on Sunday. I don't imagine we see a ton of blitzing from the 49ers given the Chiefs weapons out of the backfield. The Eagles were a team that could do that, and the 49ers were fairly conservative in their approach. And of course, it did help them snuff out some screen attempts.
It will be interesting to see if the line shows any movement over the next few days. The Chiefs escaped MNF relatively unscathed health-wise, while the 49ers have a few days to figure out the status of Anthony Davis and Vernon Davis. Injury updates on those two could very well move this line.
