Good morning everyone. The NFL regular season starts later today when the Packers visit those depressing folks who live in the fog and rain all year. I would like to say that our game against the Cowboys on Sunday won't be overshadowed, but it already has been. We have about 321 Ray McDonald links and maybe two or three Cowboy links. There you have it folks, your week one 49er storyline.
This whole off season has seemed really long to me, maybe that's because I have been writing about it. But at the same time, maybe it was the incessant beat down of the never ending off field issues. Who's to say which one is right? The second one. The second one is right. Its like some cruel joke that the football gods are playing on us. Oh, Aldon Smith got his S wrapped up? Lets get Ray McDonald on domestic violence literally right after Goodell increases the punishment. It's totally cruel and unusual, but I guess we must put up with it.
As far as Ray McDonald, one of the big reasons this story continues to pick up steam is because the 49ers are continuing to let him play. There is such a thing as due process in this country, but much like Aldon Smith last season, it is a little awkward to let a player play immediately after being arrested for a serious offense. It is rare, but Ray McDonald wouldn't be the first man to be arrested for DV despite not really doing anything. We'll just have to wait to see what the investigation turns up. If he is found guilty, it is hard to imagine him playing for the 49ers for long. Until then, we will just have to put up with the moralists in all 31 other teams, the national media, and some of our own media. Word to the wise, watch out for Kawakami's article if you are a little sensitive about this whole process, it'll save a few years of your lifespan. To the links!
