The San Francisco 49ers appear to be down a cornerback early on, as Tramaine Brock has departed for the locker room. He left the game in the first quarter, and trainers began looking at his lower leg or ankle. A subsequent update from the 49ers stated it is a toe injury. He was taken to the locker room on a cart, and the 49ers declared him questionable to return.
When Brock left the field, Perrish Cox came on in his place. Cox has generally been viewed as a nickel back, backing up rookie Jimmie Ward. However, Cox spent most of the preseason playing in place of Brock on the outside, when he was dealing with an ankle injury. It is not surprising then that he is the first DB off the bench. The 49ers deactivated veteran Chris Cook, and kept rookie Dontae Johnson active. This injury means we will probably see a little bit of Johnson when the 49ers go to the dime.
