The close of Week 1 means it is time for NFL power rankings! Week 2 gets started on Thursday with the Baltimore Ravens hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers, and our San Francisco 49ers face the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football.
The 49ers handled their business on Sunday against a fairly inept Dallas Cowboys squad, joining the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks in getting off to a 1-0 start. Although there will be other teams in the hunt for the Super Bowl, coming into the season, these three teams were the big names. Other teams have moved up and down in Super Bowl odds, but the 49ers, Seahawks, and Broncos are arguably the three teams to beat.
That being said, the New Orleans Saints are a team we'll want to pay attention to, even beyond their matchup with the 49ers. The Saints stumbled out of the gates with a 37-34 overtime loss in Atlanta. I would argue that loss says more about Atlanta's potential resurgence than what we already knew about the Saints as a road team. If the Saints can claim home field in the NFC, they will likely emerge as a favorite in the playoffs. The 49ers almost beat them in the Superdome last year, and a potential infusion of talent late in the season would make that one heck of a matchup.
Here are a few power rankings. The Seahawks and Broncos generally lead the way. I'm a little surprised the Eagles moved up in some considering how they looked in the first half against the Jaguars. I don't think that half represents the team we'll see this season, but they need to show some improvement.
