Jimmie Ward tweets he does not have a concussion

JImmie Ward took to Twitter on Tuesday to assure his family and friends that he does not have a concussion. Time for an update on the 49ers injured secondary.

The San Francisco 49ers lost several cornerbacks to injury during their 28-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys, but at least one of them might be a little bit closer to returning. Defensive back Jimmie Ward left the game in the fourth quarter, with what some were describing as concussion-like symptoms. It would appear that either the symptoms are gone, or he did not actually have them. Ward tweeted this afternoon:

Chris Culliver did suffer a concussion, as reported by the 49ers. Culliver is likely going through the concussion protocol this week, which means we will find out his status late in the week. Ward's tweet would seem to indicate he is not going through the protocol, but we don't know exactly what his status is. The 49ers will release their first practice participation report on Wednesday, so we will find out more then.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was on KNBR this morning, and he was asked about Culliver and Tramaine Brock. He said both were doing better, and the team was hopeful moving forward. Brock is dealing with a sprained toe that is being described by some as turf toe. ESPN's Stephania Bell broke down turf toe a few years back. It's an injury to the tissue surrounding the join in the toe, and can involve overstretched or torn ligaments. It impacts the ability to drive off the foot, which is a pretty big deal for cornerbacks. There is no word on the severity of Brock's toe injury.
