Dan Quinn's top choice is New York Jets head coach position, according to report

A New York newspaper is reporting Dan Quinn's top choice for a head coaching job is the New York Jets. We break down what this means as the 49ers move forward.

Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn interviewed with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, December 30, but his interest might lie elsewhere. According to the New York Daily News, Quinn has told friends the Jets are his top choice. Quinn has interviewed with the Jets, 49ers, Bills, Bears and Falcons. The NYDN report also says Quinn wants Kyle Shanahan to be his offensive coordinator.

The 49ers have interviewed eight candidates for their vacancy, with no specific favorite emerging in recent days. Jim Tomsula was viewed by many as the favorite heading into the search, but he has fallen off the radar. Mike Shanahan became a favorite when Jason Cole reported Jed York wanted to make a bit of a splash. Additionally, Vic Fangio and Teryl Austin both reportedly had strong interviews.

And after all that, we still don't really know where the 49ers are going with this thing. Minus leaks about who is interviewing, which happens for every team, the 49ers have battened down the hatches to some degree in recent days. They might have more interviews planned, but we don't know for certain.

On Friday, the NFL surpassed the longest time without the first vacancy being filled following Black Monday. I have to think the dominos start to fall on Monday, but who really knows at this point.
