The San Francisco 49ers coaching search trucks along with a second interview set with Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Ian Rapaport intiially reported the 49ers had set up an interview Monday evening, but he later corrected that to Tuesday. Matt Maiocco has followed that up with his own source reporting the 49ers will travel to meet Gase on Tuesday.
Maiocco's tweet also had an interesting follow-up on defensive line coach Jim Tomsula.
NFL source tells me 49ers are traveling to meet with Adam Gase tomorrow. Jim Tomsula is their top in-house candidate, according to sources.

Jim Tomsula was considered by many to be the favorite heading into the process, but there has been no word of an official interview. He has been around long enough that it is entirely possible the 49ers feel they know him well enough. There has been some speculation that Tomsula has made it known for some time that he wants the job, so maybe there have been informal discussions as well.
Whatever the case, it will be interesting to see if this 2+ week search process all ends up with Jim Tomsula getting installed as the 19th head coach in 49ers history. Or maybe the 49ers are impressed enough with Adam Gase in their second interview to make the call by Tuesday or Wednesday. Over the weekend I guessed that Tuesday or Wednesday might be announcement time, but I'll push it back to Thursday or Friday at this point. If it is Gase or Tomsula, end of the week would make sense.
