The San Francisco 49ers coaching staff remains a huge question mark, but another assistant is likely considering other options. On Monday, Matt Barrows reported the Buffalo Bills had interest in 49ers offensive line coach Mike Solari. On Tuesday, Matt Maiocco reported the Bills requested permission to interview Solari.
When the 49ers "parted ways" with Jim Harbaugh, they still had a fairly full coaching staff under contract. The 49ers have let some of the coaches interview for jobs, but they did turn down Washington's request to interview Vic Fangio for the defensive coordinator role vacated by Jim Haslett. Fangio was in the midst of the 49ers head coach interview process, so it made sense at the time. There has been no word of anybody else inquiring about Fangio, but if Adam Gase is hired, that could very well change in a hurry.
In the meantime, the 49ers coaching staff has had a few departures in the 2+ weeks since Jim Harbaugh departed. Assistant offensive line coach Reggie Davis was the first to depart, leaving to coach running backs at Nebraska. That was followed by word that assistant secondary coach Greg Jackson and assistant strength and conditioning coach Kevin Tolbert were leaving for Jim Harbaugh's Michigan staff. There was some speculation wide receivers coach John Morton was headed to Michigan as well, but that was never confirmed.
For now, the remaining coaching staff still around includes:
Brad Seely - Special teams coordinator/assistant head coach
Tracy Smith - Special teams assistant
Vic Fangio - Defensive coordinator
Jim Tomsula - Defensive line coach
Ed Donatell - Secondary coach
Jim Leavitt - Linebackers coach
Ejiro Evero - Defensive assistant
Geep Chryst - Quarterbacks coach
Tom Rathman - Running backs coach
Eric Mangini - Tight ends coach
Ronald Curry - Offensive assistant
Mick Lombardi -
Richmond Flowers - Offensive assistant
Mark Uyeyama - Head strength and conditioning coach
Kurt Scjmidt - Strength, conditioning and nutrition assistant
