Golden Nuggets: Another Good Coach Out The Door?

Well, it looks like Trent Baalke is leaving his 2nd interview with Adam Gase in Denver without Gase in tow. The GM and Denver's OC had dinner in Denver and according to reports, Baalke left without Gase. He still could be hired tomorrow as Niners HC. He still seems to be the top candidate according to most experts.

If Gase is selected as HC, another coach could be leaving the team immediately after. Reports suggest that Vic Fangio will leave if neither he or Mike Shanahan are selected. What would happen to the team if that happens? It doesn't look like a good thing. Fangio performed miracles with the defense this year. Considering all of the injuries and offseason issues that had players missing on the defensive side of the ball, he still kept them as an elite defense. He turned Chris Borland into a star defensive player.

The Niners need to keep Vic happy even if he isn't selected as HC. Pay him more money. The last 4 years, the Niners have been about defense more than offense. They built success on power running, field position, and defense. To keep that continuity on defense would make the transition for the new HC easier. If Vic left, the new HC would have a massive hill to climb. Leaving him to worry about just the offense would make his job easier. He would know that Vic would take care of the defense. Vic is the best in the business. We can't afford to lose him.
