49ers release statement upon promotion of Jim Tomsula to head coach

The San Francisco 49ers issued a statement upon the official promotion of Jim Tomsula to head coach. We have those statements, and what one might read into Jed York's in particular.

The San Francisco 49ers made the promotion of Jim Tomsula official Wednesday afternoon, issuing a press release to announce the move. The press release included statements from Jed York and Trent Baalke.

Jed York: "After conducting a thorough coaching search, and meeting with a number of outstanding candidates, Jim Tomsula clearly is the right man to lead this team. Jim is a great teacher and a tremendous mentor who conducts himself with great class and integrity."

Trent Baalke: "Our organization is excited to have Jim Tomsula leading this football team. We have had the privilege of working alongside Jim for the past eight seasons.  He is a proven leader, teacher and mentor, and we look forward to seeing him apply his craft and vision to our team."

I find it interesting that Jed once again referenced class in discussing the next 49ers coach. In the press conference to announce the team was "parting ways" with Jim Harbaugh, Jed talked about the need to win with class. He tried to take some blame for the off-field stuff, but it is easy to think the class comments were a jab at Jim Harbaugh. After all, he talked about the need to win with class moving forward, and with Jed and Baalke not going anywhere, that left blame on one person, Jim Harbaugh.

If this is in fact the case, this prepared statement reads almost like a follow-up on that. Maybe it's not, but given the York-Harbaugh dynamic, I would not be shocked by it.
