The San Francisco 49ers coaching staff is still a work in progress, and something interesting has jumped out. The team at some point is reported to have requested an interview with former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, but initial reports said he declined. Now, we might have an interesting reason why: Mike Shanahan could very well be in play:
Kyle Shanahan may have turned down the SF OC interview for great reason. Told his father Mike Shanahan is still in play for the job. #49ers

I had heard some rumblings that Rob Chudzinski was going to get the job, but given his ongoing status with the Indianapolis Colts, the 49ers are not allowed to say anything about it. I would be surprised if it was not Chudzinski, but I suppose anything is possible.
One thing to keep in mind with this Shanahan rumor is we don't know what kind of agenda is in play on this. The 49ers could very well be interested in Shanahan as OC, and only recently found out he would in fact be interested in an OC job and not a head coach job. We likely won't know anything for certain on Chudzinski until after the Colts play this weekend. In the meantime, the rumor mill is running hot and heavy.
