The San Francisco 49ers have requested permission to speak with Indianapolis Colts special assistant Rob Chudzinski for their vacant offensive coordinator job, according to Ian Rapoport. The 49ers have been rumored to be connected with Chudzinski, and as I have made pretty clear, he is my prediction to get the job.
Chudzinski is the first interview request we have heard thus far. The team has also been connected with Marc Trestman, Lane Kiffin, and Mike Shanahan. Some folks have been asking why Chudzinski would leave Indianapolis and Andrew Luck, but it is important to remember he is simply a special assistant to Chuck Pagano. He was head coach of the Cleveland Browns, and one would imagine he would like to get back into a head coach position. A job as 49ers OC could open some doors if he could build up what was a rather inconsistent 49ers offense.
Chudzinski became available with the Colts loss on Monday. Although the St. Louis Rams asked for permission to interview Chudzinski, and the 49ers have been connected to other names, I think Chud and the 49ers work something out sooner rather than later. However it works out, I think we see Chudzinski figure out his next step before the end of the week.
