Geep Chryst on Bears offensive coordinator radar

The San Francisco 49ers coaching staff remains gutted while the team considers its options. They reportedly retained Geep Chryst, but now the Chicago Bears appear to be sniffing around.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers retained a small number of their coaches following the firing of Jim Harbaugh, including quarterbacks coach Geep Chryst. Following word of his return, there were multiple reports that his specific role was not yet defined, meaning he might not be QB coach moving forward.

Now it is getting a little more convoluted. According to Adam Schefter, Chryst is on the Chicago Bears radar for their vacant offensive coordinator job. The Bears recently hired Vic Fangio to be their defensive coordinator, and Ed Donatell could potentially take over their secondary coaching job. I suppose it would be fitting to round it out with the addition of Chryst. Adam Gase and Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter (seriously, that's his name) are both on the radar as well.

The 49ers coaching staff is a work in progress right now. Here is what we can tell so far based on a mix of news and rumors.
