The Niners newly let go DC Vic Fangio found a new position really quick. He was hired for the same position with the Chicago Bears. Any bets that the Bears' defense is one of the top in the league next season? I have no doubt that they take a major leap forward just because of him. Now the Niners have to fill a coaching position that was filled with one of the best of the business.
The newest reports have Eric Mangini interviewing for the position. It was always going to be a step down from Fangio. The work that man did with all the injuries and missing players he had was unbelievable. His two top players, Willis and Bowman, were out for much of the season. Aldon was gone for a good portion of the season and the secondary was never fully healthy. Even with all that, the team had a top defense and kept them in many games.
Mangini has experience with being a DC for the Patriots. But losing Fangio for Mangini is a terrible thing to think about. It's almost worse than losing Jim Harbaugh. Fangio was always in charge of the defense, which stayed consistent the last 4 years. Harbaugh and Roman were in charge of the offense and they were never top of the league. The defense will still have top defensive talent, but the new DC will have to find a way to keep them a top defense.
I think he will be hired in the next couple days | Interviewing Chudzinski (Alper)
