Fooch's Update: Welp, that was quick. Per Mark Maske, Perry Fewell is expected to join Washington's coaching staff. There has been no word on another option for defensive backs coach, but I'm sure a name or two will leak out sooner or later.

The San Francisco 49ers lost out on Rob Chudzinski as their next offensive coordinator, and now they might find out if they will land Perry Fewell as defensive backs coach. According to a couple D.C.-based reports, he could make a decision today. He is deciding between the 49ers and Washington, with speculation there might be a third team in the mix.

Someone from ESPN 980 tweeted Washington was high on Fewell's list, and expected a decision by the end of the day. John Keim tweeted there might be a mystery third team. Keim had previously reported the 49ers made an offer to Fewell prior to his interview with Washington.

Fewell is an east coast native, living in New Jersey with his family. He could decide to stay on the east coast, even though Washington has some questions on the defensive side of the ball. The 49ers have a talented defense, and while they do have question marks in the secondary, they have a lot of talent. Eric Reid and Antoine Bethea could develop into quite the safety duo. While Perrish Cox an/dor Chris Culliver could depart in 2015, the 49ers have intriguing talent remaining. They could be looking at a starting nickel trio of Tramaine Brock, Dontae Johnson and Jimmie Ward. They each have their own questions, but there is some interesting upside there.
