The time has come once again for a minor distraction from the hot takes surrounding the San Francisco 49ers coaching search. I'm back for another prop bet preview. On Tuesday, I took a look at coin toss prop bets. Today, I thought I would take a look at the National Anthem prop bets. There are two of them, and I figure I'll put a wager in on at least one.
You have the opportunity to bet on the total time of the Anthem, and then also whether or not the singer will omit at least one word. This year, Idina Menzel is handling the anthem, and the total time set for her Anthem is two minutes, one second. The OVER is listed at -130, while the UNDER is listed at -110. The average time of the Anthem for the last nine Super Bowls is one minute, 56 seconds. Alicia Keys had the longest during that stretch at two minutes, 35 seconds, while Billy Joel came in shortest at 1:30.
You can also wager whether or not Menzel will omit at least one word of the Anthem. At Bovada.lv, a perfect anthem is installed at -600, while a mistake is at +400. This wager became popular in the wake of Christina Aguilera missing an entire verse in 2011. She finished right on the total, causing much controversy. Some sportsbooks actually refunded betters due to the finish.
If you're looking to do some research on Menzel's performance, here are a few examples. I am inclined to take the under, but that 2:01 performance at the All Star Game certainly gives me reason to think.
