Golden Nuggets: 49ers finally get an offensive coordinator after exhausting all other options

Thursday, January 29, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning everyone. The 49ers finally hired their offensive coordinator yesterday and once again, it was someone who was already there. Geep Chryst takes over for Greg Roman after serving as the 49ers QB coach since 2011. I need to be honest, the 49ers don't look too great right now. They have spent basically the entire coach search as the media's punching bag, with Jed York taking the biggest hits. As an organization, they look as toxic as I can ever remember. And that's too bad, because I can still see the talent on this roster and actually like a lot of the coaching hires.

At this point, It is obvious that the 49ers have taken a reputation hit. All we have to do to see it is look at some of the coaches who rejected the 49ers and what type of jobs they ended up with. It had been reported over the last few days that Eagles wide recievers coach Bob Bicknell had been a candidate for the 49ers OC job, but the Eagles apparently blocked him from interviewing. I don't know if that story was just an attempt to save some face for the 49ers, because yesterday it was reported that he and Tomsula actually did talk, but Bicknell rejected the offer. I don't know, I guess he just really hates promotions.

Rob Chudzinski had been considered the favorite to become the next 49ers offensive coordinator for weeks, but the Colts had blocked him from interviewing. Well, he is staying with the colts, spurning the 49ers who were waiting for his contract to expire so they could interview him. In the end, his job title ended up getting an upgrade but he still isn't a coordinator. It really makes you wonder just how toxic the 49ers look from an outsiders perspective.

Anyways, It's tough to know whether Geep Chryst will make a good coordinator or not, but I have heard nothing but good things about him. I actually wanted him promoted towards the end of last season, but that was mostly because Greg Roman was failing in an epic way and something needed to change. Its a couple months and several candidates later, but I'm glad the 49ers finally found their man. To the links!
