The San Francisco 49ers coaching staff is in a significant state of flux, and one member of the staff is definitely out the door. Scout.com is reporting assistant offensive line coach Reggie Davis will head to Nebraska to coach their running backs in 2015. Prior to serving as assistant OL coach, Davis was the 49ers tight ends coach. Before joining the 49ers in 2011, he coached Oregon State's running backs from 2008-2010, and UNLV running backs from 2005-2007.
Trent Baalke previously suggested that 49ers coaches will get an opportunity to interview with the eventual head coach. However, given that the coaching search is likely going to last into next week, it is not surprising some of the coaches are looking for whatever other opportunities they can find. When the head coach goes, it becomes every man for himself, and rightfully so. You never know what the next head coach will want to do with existing assistants.
Speaking of which, secondary coach Ed Donatell is set to interview with Washington on Wednesday, according to Matt Barrows. We knew that Washington had requested permission, but this is a bit more concrete info. There are reports Donatell could end up as Vic Fangio's defensive coordinator if Fangio gets the head coach job, but it makes sense for Donatell to have backup options available. Hopefully the search process is wrapped up before that Wednesday interview, and we know just what the future holds for both Fangio and Donatell.
