Golden Nuggets: New Year, No New Coach

And the search for a Niners head coach continues. With Arizona, Cincinnati, and Detroit now eliminated from the playoffs, the front office can interview candidates that have been linked with the job. Defensive coordinator from Arizona, Todd Bowles, is scheduled to interview this week. Detroit's defensive coordinator Teryl Austin is also said to be in for an interview. Nothing has been reported, but I would think that the team would also interview Cincinnati's Hue Jackson.

A couple of former head coaches have been linked with the position. Mike Holmgren is reportedly interested in the position, but it seems that the team is not interested in him as a candidate. Former Niner coach, Mike Shanahan, interviewed over the weekend. Josh McDaniels, Adam Gase of Denver, Rex Ryan, and Dan Quinn of Seattle have also interviewed. It is interesting that Tomsula has not been interviewed. But that may be because they know him very well and do not need a formal sit down with him.

None of these names make fans excited. Most people probably want to promote Vic Fangio to the head coaching position and have the team pick an innovative offensive coordinator. It looks like this decision may take some time. But I think the best option is already on the coaching staff.
