Well, we're back for another week of San Francisco 49ers football. The 49ers get to be on Sunday Night Football in Week 5. They are in New Jersey, set to face the New York Giants, with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. PT. The game will air on NBC, and will be streamed on NBCSports.com. That means pretty much all of us will be able to watch whatever comes of this matchup.
Would strong 49ers DEF performance even matter?
We break down the 49ers-Giants game and whether or not a second straight strong defensive performance would matter.
The Giants are 2-2, coming off back-to-back wins over Washington and the Buffalo Bills. They blew fourth quarter leads in their first two games, so they are not exactly that far off from 4-0. They are not 4-0, so it's just a hypothetical, but they are a contender in the NFC East.
And that means the 49ers face a stiff test this weekend. Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. will look to pick apart this secondary. Manning is quick to throw the ball, so the pass rush will likely not be able to get a lot going. I don't expect nothing from the pass rush, but the 49ers secondary will face a big challenge this weekend.
On offense, it all comes down to the offensive line getting things straight, and Colin Kaepernick figuring out what kind of passer he is going to be. He had a horrible game against the Arizona Cardinals, throwing four interceptions, including a pair of pick-sixes. The following week against the Green Bay Packers, he seemed hesitant, and skittish. The previous week's performance seemed stuck in his head. He exudes confidence when he talks, but something is missing on the field. If he is hesitant against the Giants, this is going to be a long night.
