49ers-Giants inactives: Andrew Tiller, Joe Staley both active

The 49ers have activated offensive guard Andrew Tiller for Sunday Night Football. Will he get playing time, or is he simply going to be a reserve?

The San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants each announced their inactives for Sunday Night Football, and there is certainly some notable news. The 49ers have activated Andrew Tiller in his first game on the 53-man roster. The team promoted Tiller to the practice squad Saturday afternoon.

Matt Maiocco reported Tiller was getting some first team right guard reps at guard this past week at practice. Although he was on the practice squad at that point, he is allowed to be fully involved in practice. There is no word on what his role will be against the Giants, but this hopefully bodes well for some kind of shake-up to the offensive line.

In a move that is not surprising, the team has activated Joe Staley. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but was back on Friday in limited fashion. He was listed as questionable, but once he was back at practice, it seemed all but assured he would be playing.

The 49ers deactivated their new linebacker, Gerald Hodges. The 49ers acquired him earlier this week in a trade with Minnesota. I imagine he will be active next week once he has had more time to get assimilated into the defense and special teams.

49ers inactives: TE Vernon Davis, OLB Ahmad Brooks, WR DeAndrew White, RB Mike Davis, LB Gerald Hodges, G Ian Silberman, NT Mike Purcell

Giants inactives: LB Devon Kennard, LB Jonathan Casillas, OG Bobby Hart, WR Victor Cruz, TE Jerome Cunningham, DE Robert Ayers, DE George Selvie
