49ers sit as 5.5-point underdog to Seattle Seahawks for Thursday Night Football

The San Francisco 49ers face the Seattle Seahawks later this week on Thursday Night Football, and it should be no surprise that the 49ers are an underdog. Sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark currently have the 49ers sitting as a 5.5-point underdog. The early odds Sunday evening opened at 49ers +4, but it has quickly grown to 5.5

Earlier this year, CG Technology opened their own early lines shortly after the schedule release. At the time, they listed the 49ers as a 1.5-point underdog in this game. A lot has changed since then, and even with Seattle struggling, the 49ers own struggles pushed this line a bit.

The total is set at 41.5, which looks like it will be the lowest of the week. This is no surprise. Thursday Night Football features either good defense, or bad offense, depending on how you want to look at it. Teams come in on short rest, and even if injury reports are not extensive, players are not going to be at 100 percent. Even healthy players need the week for their body to get back to where it needs to be. That is one major reason why TNF games are not usually the prettiest of games.

One of the more interesting trends on this game is that the Seahawks have covered the spread eight straight games. That has included the last three games the 49ers hosted. The 49ers lost 19-3 on Thanksgiving last year, won 19-17 in December 2013, and won 13-6 in October 2012. Given the short week, and both teams' struggles, I could see another ugly game. They could very well get on a hot run and put up serious points, but I would lean toward the under on the 41.5 number.

Here are a few other trends heading into Thursday's game, courtesy of Odds Shark:
