49ers work out Pierre Thomas due to running back injuries

The San Francisco 49ers have some injury issues at the running back position. They brought in Pierre Thomas for a tryout as they consider shoring up their depth.

The San Francisco 49ers have a short week before they face the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football, and they might have to account for some banged up players. ESPN's Field Yates is reporting the team worked out free agent running back Pierre Thomas on Monday.

The decision to work him out comes after a Sunday in which Carlos Hyde aggravated his foot injury, and Reggie Bush is still a question mark. Head coach Jim Tomsula said Hyde's foot was sore, but was nothing more serious than what they've been dealing treating recently. My guess is he sees little to no practice this week, but then goes on Thursday. Tomsula said he was optimistic Bush could play on Thursday, but this is Reggie Bush, so we'll take it with a grain of salt.

The team has Jarryd Hayne and Mike Davis as options, but the rookies are still learning the ins and outs of NFL-caliber football. Hayne missed a block that led to a Colin Kaepernick sack on Sunday, and pass protection remains an issue for both players to build on.
