Jim Harbaugh officially getting NFL head coach questions

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

It was only a matter of time before this happened in some form or fashion. Jim Harbaugh has not been formally linked in rumors to any jobs, but he has been discussed in connection with a couple NFL jobs. The Miami Dolphins fired Joe Philbin, and Chuck Pagano is on the hot seat with the Indianapolis Colts. There are no rumors yet, but his name has come up in the form of lists of logical candidates for jobs.

And this has him now getting his first questions about it. On a Tuesday Big Ten media call, he was asked about his name being mentioned as a logical candidate for these jobs. Harbaugh's response was about what I would expect to hear from him:

Harbaugh is only in his first year with Michigan, and I do not expect him to leave in the first couple years. I don't know if I see him lasting the long haul with his alma mater, but I think he lasts longer than most of his jobs. But it will be interesting to see if the rumors start coming up connecting him to other jobs. It happened when he was at the University of San Diego, and then again at Stanford, and then against with the San Francisco 49ers.

Harbaugh is now coaching his alma mater, so it is entirely possible it will not play out in the same fashion. This is basically the only such exception. That being said, a chance to go back to his Indianapolis Colts, or any other chance to get back in for a Super Bowl would not exactly be shocking. His history makes it hard to believe it won't happen, but I guess we'll just wait and see what happens in the coming years.
