Golden Nuggets: Similar Issues For Familiar Foes

Wednesday, October 21st, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from the Internet

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks arrive at Levi's Stadium for a Thursday night game with the Niners. In the last few years, these games meant a chance at leading the division. This time around, the winner of the game moves out of the basement of the NFC West. The Seahawks beat the Niners last year on Thanksgiving night in the 1st season at Levi's which certainly ended the Jim Harbaugh era in San Francisco.

Both teams arrive on Thursday with similar problems. On the offensive side of the ball, both Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson have been running for their lives due to poor offensive line play. For the Niners, it was expected with the loss of Mike Iupati and the unexpected retirement of Anthony Davis. The Seahawks traded away C Max Unger for Jimmy Graham. The line play has also affected the normal hard pounding run games.

On the defense, the Niners and Seahawks are having issues in their pass defense. The Niners lost both starting corners from last year and have been unable to generate a pass rush since the departure of Aldon Smith and retirement of Justin Smith, which allows QBs to have time throwing the ball. The Seahawks are having breakdowns in the secondary that they didn't have the last few years. Their secondary used to be the strength of the team, but this year QBs are able to attack them. TEs have had success against the Seahawks. The Niners will probably look to continue that trend.

The rivalry renews on Thursday, but with a different feel than years past. The same 2-4 records have something to do with it, but the absence of Jim Harbaugh takes away most of it. The Niners will be looking for revenge for last Thanksgiving night's game.
