49ers-Seahawks recap: Jim Tomsula discusses the TNF disaster

The San Francisco 49ers head coach met with the media after the 49ers ugly TNF loss. We have a full transcript. You can also listen to audio here, and view video here.

Opening comments:

"Injuries, [S Antoine] Bethea got the shoulder. Left the game, didn't return. He's being checked. [S Jaquiski] Tartt got a leg bruise and [CB Kenneth] Acker cramped up. That game today was not what we want. It was not acceptable. We did not play well. We don't have an excuse. Again, that lies right here and we need to do a better job. We're going to take the next few days and get after that. Questions?"

Do you have the players to be able to win?

"Yes."

What makes you say that?

"That locker room is a good locker room. They're in there, they're tight, they work, and we've got players to win games.

You brought up the coaching staff, did you feel like, was Seattle doing things you weren't expecting, or how prepared was this team to play tonight?

"No. They weren't doing things we weren't expecting. They did what we expected."

Did they just over power you --?

"They just played better than we played."

Can I ask you why you didn't play RB Jarryd Hayne?

"That was just getting to our 46-man roster and trying to make sure we had people up there that we needed right now."

Did you speak to him about it, and is he OK with it or was he upset?

"Yes, he was fine. He didn't like it, but he was fine."

There was a report before the game that RB Carlos Hyde has a stress fracture in that left foot. What do you know about the injury, is that accurate?

"He has a foot issue and I don't get into the specifics of injuries."

Are you getting any closer to putting in QB Blaine Gabbert?

"No."

Were there helmet communication issues between QB Colin Kaepernick and the coaching staff?

"Yeah, there was something happening there. I don't know what it is. But, we had a couple plays there where we had to hustle back and forth."

Five losses in seven games is a lot of losses.

"Yes, sir."

Is this season getting away from you?

"No."

Do you still feel you can make the playoffs?

"We're going to fight every day to make the playoffs. As long as there's a chance to make the playoffs, we're going to fight like crazy to get to the playoffs."

You punted twice late down by 17 points. It didn't seem like those were long yardage plays, what was the logic there?

"I was trying to get the field position changed."

Defensively, we've seen a lot of wide receivers just get open throughout the season, especially tonight. What's causing that on defense?

"I hate to use a cliché, but I'm going to have to look at this tape here and I'll let you know what I see."

Some would construe punting there as giving up. Do you feel like it's a give-up?

"No, I didn't feel like that was a give-up. No."

Colin seemed to have accuracy issues tonight, was there any particular reason for that?

"No. We have to sure up our protection. For sure, we've got to get our protection sured up. There were a couple of balls I'm sure he wants back."

Is it next to impossible for Colin to be effective and to be accurate when he's under such duress?

"Well, he obviously can't operate without protection."

Do you need to make a decision at right guard as far as to say, "you're the guy?"

"I'm not going to get into the personnel things today."
