There will be plenty more opportunities to blast this team for an awful Week 7 loss, but for now, I thought I'd go back to another look at the snap count (gamebook PDF). I suppose it won't make me much happier, but we can alternate football discussion with rage discussion.
The biggest news on the defensive side of the ball was Antoine Bethea's shoulder injury. He injured it and did not return, opening the door for Jaquiski Tartt to get a serious bump in playing time. Tartt had a season-high 48 snaps. After a strong 2014 season, Bethea has been sort of meh this year, much like the rest of the defense. It will be interesting to see how quickly the team is willing to transition to Tartt as part of a true rebuilding program.
Gerald Hodges made his debut for the 49ers, playing 15 snaps. NaVorro Bowman sat out 10 snaps, while Michael Wilhoite sat out 9 snaps. There was talk before the game that Bowman would get some rest given the short week, and we saw it. Given the way this season is going, I'd love to see Hodges get even more work. He's a talented young linebacker, and the 49ers really need to figure out what some of their youngers guys can do. That includes guys like Arik Armstead getting more work. Tank Carradine actually ended up with his second highest snap total of the season. The 49ers got some pressure on Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch, but struggled too many times in closing the deal with sacks or tackles for a loss.
