We might be waiting until the bye week for potential 'big changes'

Following the San Francisco 49ers Thursday Night Football loss, Matt Maiocco made a comment about the potential for big changes moving forward. He said he did not know specifically what that might entail, but given his connections within the 49ers organization, it is something to certainly take seriously.

On Friday, Maiocco made an appearance on 95.7 The Game, and host Damon Bruce asked him about that comment. Maiocco did not have any more specifics too offer, but he provided a little more context to his statement. He did not think it would entail firing Jim Tomsula given the capital Jed York and Trent Baalke expended to install him as head coach. He did not get into specifics on assistant coaches, so that is certainly something to monitor.

He also seemed to indicate this is not something we would see when Week 8 rolls around. He talked about how if things continue to scuffle along the next two weeks, "don't be surprised if something trickles down from the top" and we see some potential adjustments.

What "big" entails is hard to figure out. It could be benching Colin Kaepernick. It could be some shuffling other players on offense or defense. It could be a lot of things. A big bye week change at quarterback would not exactly be shocking if this team is 2-7 at that point, but who really knows. The 49ers face the St. Louis Rams on the road, and then host the Atlanta Falcons. Both are winnable games, but the 49ers are also not a good football team, so they could very easily blow both games. I really have no idea at this point.
