49ers depth chart: Jaquiski Tartt listed as starting strong safety

The San Francisco 49ers lost strong safety Antoine Bethea to a season-ending injury. It appears rookie Jaquiski Tartt will replace him.

The San Francisco 49ers released their Week 8 depth chart, and rookie safety Jaquiski Tartt has been bumped into the No. 1 spot at strong safety. Antoine Bethea tore his pectoral muscle last Thursday, and was subsequently placed on injured reserve.

Earlier in the day, Jim Tomsula said Tartt and Jimmie Ward would both be under consideration for the role. Tartt's inclusion at No. 1 on the unofficial depth chart does not mean he is going to be the starter on Sunday, but odds seem pretty good he ends up in the role. He spoke with the media on Tuesday, and his comments seem to indicate he will handle that starting role. He did say that he and Ward both get reps at the safety positions and their respective back roles. Maybe we see various combinations when the 49ers rotate between their base, nickel and dime.
