Golden Nuggets: On To The Rams

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from the Internet

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

On Tuesday, Jim Tomsula confirmed reports of a "heated" meeting taking place. After the Packers loss, Tomsula called a team meeting on the Tuesday following the game. The coaches had their say and then left to have the players talk things out. After the performance of that game, it was not surprising that things were heated. Blame belongs all round the locker room. Reports came out saying that Vernon Davis stood up against Kap and Joe Staley came to Kap's defense. They apparently had another confrontation after last week's game against Seattle.

On Sunday, the team plays the St. Louis Rams. The Rams possess probably the best defensive line in the NFL. They rank #3 in the league in sacks with 23 in their 6 games. With the problems the Niners offensive line has, this is a huge mismatch. Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn lead the team in sacks with 4.5 and 4 respectively. Colin will have to get the ball out of his hand quickly. The coaches will have to come up with a plan to help the right side of the offensive line deal with these gifted pass rushers.

On defense, the Niners will have to be weary of Todd Gurley. In the last 3 games, he has amassed 433 yards rushing and finally reached the end zone last week. He is showing the ability that made him a wanted player coming out of Georgia before his injury. Nick Foles hasn't played very well since his season opening game against the Seahawks. With a few extra days to rest up and game plan, hopefully the Niners come out much better than they did against those same Seahawks on Thursday night.
