Parys Haralson to work out for 49ers, per Maiocco

The San Francisco 49ers apparently want to boost their depth at outside linebacker. We take a look at what it means to bring in outside linebacker Parys Haralson for a workout.

The San Francisco 49ers will bring in outside linebacker Parys Haralson for a workout, according to Matt Maiocco. Haralson spent the last two seasons with the New Orleans Saints, where he accumulated 6.5 sacks. He has previously spent six seasons with the 49ers before the team dealt him during the 2013 preseason.

There is no word of injuries to anybody amongst the outside linebackers. The 49ers pass rush is coming off its best performance of the season. Aaron Lynch had two sacks and a hurry, and Ahmad Brooks had one sack and one hurry. Eli Harold and Corey Lemonier each had one hurry, according to Pro Football Focus.

The pass rush struggled the last couple weeks, but on Sunday, the team went with more four man fronts. They were able to drop more men in coverage, and generally keep Aaron Rodgers somewhat contained. Well, relative to what we have seen him do to other teams this season.

Haralson was already moving away from a pass rush role when he left the 49ers. In 2011, he handled base down work, with Aldon Smith replacing him in the nickel. He missed 2012 with a torn triceps, and then was dealt away.
