49ers-Giants injury report: Vernon Davis out, Joe Staley questionable

The San Francisco 49ers will be without their No. 1 tight end, again. He has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants. That's not good.

The San Francisco 49ers have not formally emailed out their Week 5 injury report, but apparently they sent it off to the New York Giants. According to the Giants tweet, Vernon Davis will be out for Sunday's game, and Joe Staley and Quinton Patton are both questionable.

The Davis news is a little bit of a surprise. He was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, which seemed to bode well for him. But to be ruled out entirely indicates either a setback on Friday, or he was just not quite getting where he needed to be the last couple of days. His absence means more Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek, and Blake Bell.

The Staley news sounds about right. Jim Tomsula said he would be back at practice on Friday following two days of rest. He had someone roll up his leg last Sunday, so the team took it easy getting him back into practice. My guess is he plays and the offensive line looks the same as it has thus far this season. That is not exactly a good thing, given what we've seen this far, but maybe they can get it together in some fashion similar to Week 1.
