49ers-Rams inactives: Anquan Boldin inactive, Jerome Simpson active

The San Francisco 49ers are down a man at wide receiver, as Anquan Boldin is inactive with a hamstring injury. We break down what it means.

The San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams each released their Week 8 inactives, and wide receiver Jerome Simpson will make his debut. Simpson was suspended for six games, and added to the 53-man roster following last week's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Anquan Boldin is dealing with a hamstring strain, and is a bit of a surprise inactive after saying he would play earlier this week.

The question now is who will get the start opposite Torrey Smith. My guess is Quinton Patton, with Simpson getting a healthy number of snaps off the bench, but we'll see. Simpson brings a pretty strong all-around game, so I could see him getting a decent amount of work. Boldin's absence snaps his 46-game active streak.

Carlos Hyde is inactive, as expected. Kendall Gaskins is active following his promotion from the practice squad. Reggie Bush is expected to be the starting running back, with Mike Davis behind him as the No. 2. I think all three backs end up getting work, with Bush and Davis as the primary duo.

49ers inactives: WR DeAndrew White, RB Carlos Hyde, OG Brandon Thomas, OL Ian Silberman, NT Mike Purcell, WR Anquan Boldin, TE Blake Bell

Rams inactives: DE Chris  Long, QB Sean Mannion, S Christian Bryant, RB Trey Watts, TE Justice Cunningham, G Cody Wichmann, DT Doug Worthington
